Prompt: Can you explain The Mentalist in a way that doesn't make it out to be simply a knockoff of Lie to Me + Derren Brown?
I ask mostly because I've seen about three episodes so far and I just don't get it. Most shows that are similar to other shows try to have something remarkably different to set them apart; hence all the detective shows where the detective has a different glaring quirk. With The Mentalist, I honestly cannot tell what the something special is supposed to be.
Got to go: I have more work to do and two more episodes of Lie to Me to catch up on.
